About Cité

This massive medieval fortified town known as Cité de Carcassonne is a UNESCO world heritage site. From the sixth century BC, villages have occupied the site. The exceptional condition of the castle is due to restoration work carried out in the second half of the 19th century by architect Viollet-le-Duc, a project of such enormous scope and meticulous planning and research that it laid the foundation for conservation principles and practice used today. La Cité is in Carcassonne, in the Languedoc Region of southwestern France.
