What, Where & When

Welcome! Origins Far East gathers archive materials and stories of families related to me on my father’s side. It covers a broad expanse of the globe, from the remote Island of St Helena in the South Atlantic through the Far East, England and Canada. The time period is that of the British Empire, about 1600 to 1947.

One Story

The Three Elements are there for clarity and ease of use, however, my hope is that you, the visitor, will come away from Origins FE seeing it all as one unfolding story, for, of course, that is what it is — one glimpse of families making a life for themselves in the midst of remarkable times, the rise and fall of the world’s largest empire, as it gains power and wealth, peaks and ultimately falls.

At its pinnacle, Britain controlled one quarter of the earth’s land mass and one quarter of the planet’s human beings. The Industrial Revolution flourished, the British Navy ruled the oceans, the shrewd made fortunes and the enslaved and conquered toiled and perished.

I hope you will join us as we venture into this remarkable story which continues to unfold apace! Thank you for coming.
